What is Safe Kids Buckle Up?

Safe Kids Buckle Up is the largest, most comprehensive program of Safe Kids Worldwide®. Since 1996, the General Motors Corporation has served as Safe Kids Buckle Up's exclusive funding source and helped build Safe Kids Buckle Up into a multifaceted national initiative, bringing motor vehicle safety messages to children and families through community and dealer partnerships. In October 2004, Chevrolet became the lead partner of Safe Kids Buckle Up, bringing an added dimension to Safe Kids Buckle Up activities.

What We Do

Safe Kids Buckle Up offers every driver who transports children the opportunity:

  • To learn how to properly restrain children in age- and weight-appropriate car seats or booster seats
  • To learn why all passengers over age 8 should serve as good role models by using safety belts on every ride
  • To learn why children under age 13 should be seated in the back seat
  • To find their local Safe Kids coalition to learn more about other risk of accidental child injury

How We Get Things Done

The mission of Safe Kids Buckle Up is to ensure that all children are appropriately restrained in vehicles. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for U.S. children between the ages of 1 and 14. Safe Kids Buckle Up community education occurs in a variety of settings:

  • Checkup events
  • Inspection stations
  • Mobile Car Seat Check Up Vans
